Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR)
Jordi Labs provides FTIR services using a diamond ATR FTIR system. This instrument allows the analysis of very small samples including both liquids and solids without any sample pretreatment. The resulting spectra is compared against our proprietary spectral database containing in excess of 20,000 known compounds allowing for positive identification. This technique is best suited for identification of functional groups present in a material or for major sample component identification (>5%).
Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR)
NMR is an excellent tool for identification of chemical structure including monomer type and comonomer ratio. The sample is placed into a high magnetic field and subjected to a radio frequency pulse. A specific nuclei is chosen for analysis such as 1H, 13C, 19F or 29Si. Adsorption of radiation is dependent on the chemical environment surrounding the nuclei being analyzed. The resulting signal is useful for elucidating the chemical structure of sample molecules and signals are also quantitative in nature.
